So this is Callie. I honestly have been so busy I havent introduced her to the blog world. We have had her since the last week in February. She has been a really good dog. She was given to us by one of my friends. It seems her husband is handicapped and had alot of trouble walking and Callie is the kind of dog that will follow you to the bathroom so they were afraid that she would either a) get stepped on or b)he would fall on her. So I decided to save her so that they wouldnt have to send her to the pound.
I have really enjoyed her. She is a great lap dog. She loves to sit in my lap and watch TV. She is really good with Kaylyn too. I think she gets a little nervous when Kaylyn is really hyper but who doesn't lol! She is house trained for the most part....although I do think we are going to end of pulling up the carpet and putting down hardwoods. When we first got her she of course was nervous because of the new place and peed everywhere. I swear I still smell it but I have steamed cleaned my carpet like twice a month since we have gotten her.
However, since we have had Callie I have been nothing but sick! My allergies have been bothering me and I have had numerous sinus infections. So anyways, I talked to my doctor and she ran several tests and concluded that I am still allergic to many things including dogs. When she actually found out I had a dog she freaked out and told me it was in my best interest to get rid of the dog. So after discussing it with Kevin we are going to give her away to a good home. It was a hard decision especially since we have to tell Kaylyn. We will tell her sometime this weekend and I hope it goes well. Like I said I hate to get rid of her but I really have been nothing but miserable health wise of the last couple of months. So say a prayer that Kaylyn takes it well!

As most of you know I stay sick. If anyone in my family is going to get sick its going to be me. I never seem to share it with anyone but they always share it with me.
So last Thursday afternoon me and my friend Andrea hit the park to walk some laps. I am really trying to walk more in hopes of losing some weight. We normally walk about 4 miles but about half way through I start sneezing like crazy and then I get all congested. So we decided to call it a day. I had a church meeting that night so I went home to shower and get ready for that. I simply decided that since I was outside that my allergies were just acting up...because I suffer YEAR round with my allergies. All throughout my meeting at church I just seemed to get worse. More sneezing, congestion and a major headache. So I went home and literally drank a half bottle of benadryl and cozied up on the couch to watch the Season Finale of Grey's Anatomy...it was awesome by the way!
I went to bed around 12:30am but was never able to go to sleep. I decided that as soon as the doctors office opened I would be there because I had to work Friday night. I needed some rest too! My mom is the Office Manager of where I go to the doctor so I called her at 7am and she told me to be there by 8 and she would have them work me in. So I was there by 8 and saw the Dr. I was diagnosed with a Sinus Infection. Yay me! The Dr. gave me an option of getting a steroid shot & antibiotic shot. I agreed because I would much rather have the shot since it works quicker. He then asked if I had ever had the pneumonia shot. I told him I hadn't because I typically stay away from those types of shots because I know for a fact that I am allergic to the flu shot. He explained that the pneumonia shot was totally different from the flu shot and it didn't have the same contents in it so I shouldn't be allergic to it. He then told me that get the pneumonia shot typically cuts down on infections that people normally get. So I agreed to get it. So I got the steroid shot in my left hip, the antibiotic shot in my right hip and the pneumonia shot in my left arm. I was set and ready to go.
I got home took a small nap and went to Kaylyn's Graduation (I will post on this later). Afterwards came back home and got another small nap before having to be at work at 6. Work was incredibly busy that night since there was a robbery but I will post on that later too. As the night went on I began to feel worse. My head congestion was awful, I could barely breathe. Then I kept having hot & cold flashes. I was so thankful that Friday was my short night and that I only work 8 hrs. So by 2 am I was ready to go. When I got home I took my temp and it was 101.2. I took some Tylenol and laid down. I never went to sleep because I couldn't breathe because of all the congestion. Around 4 I started to get the chills and I was sweating really bad. I got up and took my temp and it was now 103.7! I couldn't believe it was higher. So of course I laid back down again. Throughout the day my fever stayed at around 103 with Tylenol and Motrin. I felt horrible and ended up calling into work because I knew I couldn't function. By 9 Saturday night I was ready to go to the ER. I couldn't get my fever down no matter what I did. I rotated between Tylenol and Motrin all day, took cold baths and kept a cold rag on my head.
At the ER the doctor came in and did a strep test. He said my fever should not be this high with just a sinus infection. It would be high for strep but my strep test was negative. They did some blood work and the conclusion was that I was having an allergic reaction to the pneumonia shot that I had gotten the day before. He went ahead and swapped my oral antibiotic to something stronger and sent me home. That night my fever still hovered between 102 & 103. I still want able to get that much rest simply because I couldn't breathe when I laid down. Later into Sunday my fever finally broke and stayed around 99 & 100 until Monday. I ended up calling in Sunday night too because I still had the fever and was not able to function. I spent all weekend in bed but got no rest. Monday morning my fever was down and I was finally able to breathe some so I ended up sleeping most of Monday. However, now that I look back it I just believe that my body was just use to being up and awake during the night and use to sleeping on Monday. Tuesday I actually got out of bed and did somethings around the house. Today I feel alot better but still have a little congestion left to deal with. Hopefully it will be over soon though.
My anniversary is Saturday and I have already requested off so hopefully I will be all better so I can enjoy dinner and a movie!

Just a Lollipop

A couple of weeks I am sitting at work and this woman walks into our lobby. I ask her how I can help her and she told me that she would like an officer to talk to her daughter about stealing. I told her no problem that it would be a few minutes because I would have to call an officer in. We like to get as much information as we can so that we can let the officers know what to expect. So I asked her the usual questions: what, when, and where did it happen and how old her daughter was. I was absolutely shocked when she told me her daughter was...5! Yes, 5 years old!
Now, I can understand not wanting your child to steal. I dont want mine to do that. I want them to understand wrong from right and not to take what doesnt belong to you. However, in my personal opinion I think taking a 5 year old to the police station is a little far. Now that's just my opinion. If that would have been my child of course I would have been upset but I do think I would have had to have a talk with her and let her know that it's wrong to take things (no matter what it is) that do no belong to you.
Plus, having an officer "scare" your child is never good either. You always want your child to trust a police officer and to never be scared of them. They are only there to help you out.
Anyway, long story short the little girl took a lollipop from the drug store because her mother wouldnt let her have one. In the end the little girl was made to apologize and the store ended up giving her the lollipop. I personally, wouldnt have let her have it at that point anyway. She was then brought to the police station where she talked to one of our officers. I would have loved to actually know what was said but I wasnt able to hear.
So, just wondering...what would you have done in this situation?

No Makeup Day

No makeup on National TV. I personally didnt see the 4th hour of The Today Show but I heard Hoda and Kathie Lee didnt wear makeup. Apparently it made pretty big news. My personal opinion is that I think it was great. I think it made a great statement and women from all over responded. It let me know that even though they are on TV (and look great when they are on there) they have flaws just like me.
First of all I am one of those people that really doesnt leave the house unless I look in a mirror and look somewhat decent. That doesnt necessarily mean that I have to have on makeup but I do have to be ok with the way I look. I admit that I would rather not wear make up unless I just have to. Especially over the last couple of years my face has become splotchy looking and I seem to be having more acne problems now than I have ever had. However, I will put out there that I only apply makeup once a day unless I have something important at night. In other words on an original day I will apply it in the morning if I am going somewhere whether it be running errands or going to the DR and then take it all off at night. But like on Wednesday's when I have church I will apply more before I go to church. But when I go to work I am a 1 time applier! I never freshen it up at work...after the 9th or 10th hour no one really cares about how they look they are just ready to go home!
So what did you think of Hoda and Kathie Lee's statement of no makeup?

Update-Making A Come Back

I cant believe its been so long since I have updated. First of all, working nights are really taking a toll on me. As I said in a previous post I work Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. I finally get back on my schedule Tuesday or Wednesday and then its time to do it all over again. So even though I said I was trying to get on a normal schedule...well I havent. But I am making an attempt to get back to the blog work. I miss all my friends and keeping up with their lives too!
So I am going to try and make some changes here on my blog. Of course my blog will still contain family stuff but I will also blog about work, my thoughts in general, and things happening in the real world whether it being facts or just my opinion.
So right now its about 8:30am and I am going to go finish cleaning up my living room and folding the last of the laundry. Afterward I will be heading back to bed since I have to work tonight. I actually stayed up till like 2am this morning catching up on some of my shows that I had DVR'd. That's usually what I do on Thursday nights. I dont watch most of my shows throughout the week so that I can stay up late Thursday night to watch them. This helps me to stay up most of Thursday night and then sleep some Friday and then work all Friday night. I know its confusing but it works for me...well somewhat anyway!

New Job
So I have been missing for a while. I have had several things going on with well my family, new job and life in general. Yes, I said new job. I now work for our local Police Dept as a Dispatcher. So far I love it. It is part time (32 hours a week). I do work nights however and enjoying that too. At first I wasnt too happy about working nights but then I realized it really works for mine and Kevin's schedule. I work Friday night (6pm-2am), Saturday night (6pm-6am), and Sunday night (6pm-6am). Working that schedule means that I am home with Kaylyn during the week. So this will work even better during the summer and spring break...this way I dont have to worry about who will take care of Kaylyn while I am working.
Working for the PD I have encountered some crazy things. We literally have this "crazy" lady that starts calling every morning around 3 am. She just calls to talk. We have to talk to her because we have to answer every phone call that comes in. She is an older woman that just calls to talk and their is nothing we can do about it. She calls and maybe talks to us for about a min or so and then she says bye and hangs up. She talks about off the wall things like diets, sex (yes, sex!), food, and grading papers. Every now and again she calls and actually needs police assistance.
Another great (insert sarcasm here) part of my job is same sex searches. During the day there is a female officer on the job...at night there isnt. So that means if a female is brought in by officers then a female dispatcher has to search her. I have assisted 2 searches during training and done 2 solo. The female is brought into the bathroom (not big at all) and a male officer stands outside the door in case help is needed. There are 2 types of searches (I have done 1 of each). There is a pat down search where we where gloves and actually pat down the suspect. Then there is a full out strip search where the suspect takes ALL of their clothes off and bends over to make sure nothing is "hidden" in their "cracks and crevices." Then I have to search their clothes and shoes to make sure nothing is in them either. If a female has on an underwire bra that has to be removed until they are released as well as "all" piercings. The best & only thing about full strip search is that we actually do not touch the suspect. We just have to "look" and make sure there isn't anything there that shouldn't be.
This past weekend on Saturday night 2 girls were brought in on underage drinking and driving. Because they were brought in for drinking a pat down search is performed. I observed one with my other female trainer and then did the other by myself. Both girls had to remove their bras because of the underwire and then the last one had to remove her piercings. One in each of her nipples and one in her belly button. I did her pat down and she was clean. They were placed in a cell for a hold.
On Sunday night we had a call for a possible DUI. Turns out the driver was completely sober but the passenger had a bag of weed on her so she was brought in on possession. Since she was being charged for drug possession she had to have a full strip search. I do have to say I was happy that I didnt have to touch her and she too was clean.
What I do love is all the excuses I get when they come in. The females are the babies that whine and cry and the men...well they just take it. One of the underage girls cried and cried. She looked like a total mess and she knew she was in trouble by her parents. The other underage girl was fine with it and very chatty when I was doing her search. She told me she was a Hooter's girl and was just talking away. Apparently she has done this before according to her record. Now the girl that was arrested for possession of weed...she wasnt crying but she wanted me to know that she had cancer and that the reason she smoked the pot was because of her kids. Apparently smoking pot helps her cope with the cancer. But we dont know for sure if she had cancer or not. I just listen and do what I have to do to get out of the room.
Those are some stories from this past weekend. I am gearing up for another weekend of fun at the station. I will keep you posted on what's going on!
Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.

Now I will admit that I spend a lot of time on Facebook. I have 316 friends and I know all of them. A few are from the Blogosphere but I talk to them on a regular basis. I dont add people that I dont know. I dont play games or anything I just check status updates and comment. I, myself dont do that many status updates. I simply get on there to see what everyone else is doing. With that said my page is pretty clean...there isnt anything on there that shouldnt/cant be seen. I know that some people "lock" their page so that it can only be viewed by friends which is cool. But what about those crazy people that put "everything" on their page for everyone to view?
The reason I am asking is because I got a friend request yesterday from a friend of Kaylyn's. Yes, a 6yr old. Now, I am not mother of the year by no means but I will not let my child have a facebook page until she is at least 14 or 15. I truly believe facebook is for older people...not children. What could a child possibly be on there for anyway?
Kaylyn is pretty tech savvy and gets to play games on the computer at school but honestly we dont allow her on our computer much at all. She does play Elmo's World here and there but that is it...and she is always supervised. She is never on the internet by herself...I am afraid of what she will find/see.
What is your thoughts on this? At what age will you let your child have a facebook page?

Bad Daily Routine
Since I have not been working I have gotten into somewhat of a bad routine during the day. It all depends on Baby A and her schedule. Baby A and I get back to the house around 7:30 from picking her up and taking Kaylyn to school. She will normally play for a little while and then will start to get sleepy. She will fight it for a little while and then eventually will give in to a nap anywhere from 8:30-9. Once I get her down for a nap I will not lie...I get comfy on the couch and take a nap too. Normally last about an hour to an hour and a half. We will then get up and I will feed her and she plays pretty contently for the rest of the morning. I will blog stalk or play around on Facebook while watching the Today Show and then my local news at 11am. Around noon its time to feed Baby A again while watching Family Feud. I have watched Family Feud so much I do believe I have seen them all.
Around 1 Baby A will normally lay down again for her afternoon nap and I will get back on the couch however this time I make sure to watch Days of our Lives. Yes, I have gotten back into Soaps. I know its sad but I have been watching it on and off for about 15yrs now and gotten back into it. It never takes long to get caught up. Kaylyn gets off the bus at 3 and shortly after Baby A is usually back up. I make snacks for Kaylyn and start her homework while getting all of Baby A's stuff together. Her dad normally is here by 5.
Of course I do clean here and there and do laundry when it needs to be done. My point to all of this is that I am in the house pretty much every day. I need outside time. I need to get out. I feel like I have gotten so lazy and I have never been this way. Baby A's mom doesnt like it when I take her places and prefers me to stay at home with her. While I understand why I still think there are times when I need to get out. So this morning when I picked up Baby A I told her mom that next Friday would be the last day I am available to keep her. She seemed to understand, but I really need the freedom.
Before I started keeping her after I would drop Kaylyn off to school I would go to the park and walk 2-3 miles a day. The energy from that would keep me going all day. I would come home and clean, do laundry and take care of things. I am hoping to get back into that routine.
I have a promising job lead that I am hoping will work out in the very near future. I am praying this will work out because I would only be working 3 days a week. Please pray that this is the right job opportunity for me.
Hand Me Downs
Thursday, February 4, 2010

I love me some hand me downs. I technically have never "had" to buy Kaylyn any clothes. I have though because I found some really cute clothes but she has never needed them. We have been so blessed to have 2 people always give us their hand me downs.
When Kaylyn was born of course I received a ton of clothes at her/my baby shower. Then when I returned to work when she was about 3 months old I had a friend bring me 2 huge black garbage bags full of clothes. See her daughter was exactly a year older than Kaylyn so all of the clothes fit Kaylyn perfect for every season. She continued to bring us clothes at every season change until Kaylyn was about 3. She had more clothes than I know what to do with. There we even items that still had tags on them. Not to mention they were always clean clothes, they never had any stains or holes.
Shortly after Kaylyn turned 3 one of my moms really good friends asked my mom Kaylyn's size. My mom told her and then within a week she brought my mom 4 big, black garbage bags full of clothes and shoes. These too were great clothes...very clean with no stains or holes in them, including the shoes. This nice lady would give us 2-3 bags every time it changed season. At one point we had so many bags of clothes we didnt know what to do with them. So as you can guess there were some clothes that she didnt even get a chance to get into because right now she is literally growing like a weed!
The shoes have been the cutest too. She has been given several pairs of flip flops, dress shoes, tennis shoes, and boots. However, like the clothes some of the shoes she never got her feet into. Like this morning for example...I put her in a pair of khaki pants with a white long sleeve blouse that had a brown sweater over it. It was so cute. So I thought to myself...I know I saw a couple of pairs of brown boots in that bag. Those would go perfect with her outfit. So I go and picked this cute pair out.
Well I couldnt get her foot in there! It was a size 10 in kids and that's what size her foot is...or so I thought. By the time I got the boot on one foot I could tell her toes were all smashed so I reluctantly took them back off. Then I tried this pair.
Same thing with these. I couldnt even get these zipped up! Now I am all upset because she didnt even get to wear these! They look practically brand new, they have no scuff marks on them at all. So I am a little sad because I had to put her darn tennis shoes on her that really didnt go with the outfit. I am sure her teacher is probably thinking "what was I thinking?"
So needless to say...these will be a good hand me down to someone.

Make-Up

My grandparents didnt get to attend Kaylyn's birthday party because they were sick. So yesterday we happen to be at my parents when my grandparents came over. They brought Kaylyn's birthday present with her too. Kaylyn opened up her present and it was a little make-up kit. Kaylyn was so excited...me not so much! It had 3 eye shadows (blue, pink & light purple), face glitter powder, liquid glitter body gel, and 2 glitter lip glosses. Of course I let her play with it since my grandparents were still there. This is what she looked like...
Awww, she has so much to learn about make-up....

Update on My Grandfather
As you know from this post my Grandfather had a full body scan to see if his cancer had spread. They called Friday and scheduled an appt for today for him to come in to get the results. I got the call today from mom to tell me the results. Unfortunately he has Stage 4 non Hodgkin's lymphoma. Not the results we were hoping for. It is a very aggressive cancer so he will be starting chemotherapy right away. I wanted to thank everyone for your prayers as well as your continued prayers. This is going to be very hard for him as well as my family.
Not Me Monday
Yes, my friends! It's that time again! It's Not Me Monday! So here is what I have NOT been doing the last week! After you read my Not Me's dont forget to head over to MckMama's Blog and see what her and everyone else have NOT been doing lately!
- I did NOT put on a pair of pantyhose they other night and stick my finger right through them on my thigh. I did NOT freak out because it was my only pair of hose and I had to wear them that night. I then did NOT out liquid band-aid over the hole in hopes it wouldnt grow. I know what liquid band-aid is used for and its not to fix my pantyhose.
- Kaylyn did NOT get sick again this past week. I did NOT have to take her to the dr to hear the diagnosis of walking pneumonia again. She has NOT had this times in the last 6 months!
- I did NOT cheat on my diet several days last week. I seriously want to lose weight so I would never cheat!
- I did NOT do like 7 loads of laundry on Saturday! How can 3 people get up 7 loads of laundry with in a few days!

Sick Again
Thursday, January 28, 2010
2
Kaylyn is sick again. How many times can a kid get sick this year? Seriously! I mean we have already gotten a note from the school about here absences (see this post). But she has been legitimately sick. I have notes from the doctors office for all her absences.
Anyway, I noticed when she came home today that her eyes looked really tired. She then started coughing. I figured her coughing was from her asthma so I gave her a breathing treatment and was hoping that was the end of it. It wasnt. Why is it that it always gets worse at night? I would really like to know why! She has now started coughing non-stop and is all congested. For now she does not have a fever. I put her to bed around 7:30 tonight and since then I have been in there 5 different times...and its 12:25 now. I have yet to go to sleep because as soon as I lay down she starts crying. Looks like I will be up for a while. Hopefully we can sleep in, although I do have my alarm set for 8:15 so that I can call the doctors office and get her an appointment.
I called the Baby A's mom and let her know so I will not have her tomorrow. I am "not" a little excited about that. I forgot how hard it is to keep up with a baby. The constant attention you have to show them and all the baby gear! I forgot how heavy the carseat is and all the diapers you have to change. Oh well, I get to focus all my attention on my sick Kaylyn. I am just hoping this is a cold and nothing serious. Two weeks ago she had strep but seem to get over it quickly. She finished all of her antibiotic and was able to return to school a day later. I am hoping this isnt a relapse of strep. But we will see...

My Grandfather

If you can please say a prayer for my family today. My Grandfather is going in to have a full body scan to see if his Leukemia has spread. He has been in remission for over 2 years now and went for his checkup and his blood count was elevated. We had to wait a whole week to get the results. Sure enough the Leukemia had returned. We are just praying that we caught it quick enough so that its hasnt spread. He hasnt felt sick or shown any signs so we are hoping that is a good sign.
He is very upset about this as you could imagine. He did not like the chemotherapy (which who does) and is not looking forward to starting it again. Plus when you are on chemotherapy your immune system is so weak so its best if he stays home and out of public places. He is by no means a home body. He loves to go and be outside, go to work and of course to church.
Please pray for strength for him today as he goes through the scan and that God gives him peace about this. I know it will be hard for him and my family because it was a long journey to get him into remission. Thanks for your prayers!
