A Few Jobs from the past

Wednesday, September 30, 2009 3
I read Ace's post yesterday and in there she mentioned her first job (no I am not going to tell you her first job! You go ready it here yourself!). It got me to thinking about my first job and then some that followed.

Other than babysitting I didnt start working until I was 16. My first job was at a bakery...I am not going to name the place because it is still in business and I got paid under the table:) Anyway, it was a bakery/deli. One of my really good friends (Kim) got me a job there. I would have to be at work at 4 in the afternoons and we would close at 8 and I was normally home by 9ish. What I would do was take orders and actually cooked a few things too! My favorite was a phillycheese steak sandwich. Yummy! Being a bakery they also made wedding cakes! The best part (for us anyways) was when they would mess up a cake and have to start over. Kim and I would take the messed up cake (it wasnt really messed up it either had the wrong frosting or cake mix...always something like that) to school the next day and have yummy cake for lunch or eat it for breakfast. Back then I could get away with eating cake for breakfast! We also got paid to help cater some weddings. That was always fun because we got to drive the "company" SUV...it was a Ford Expedition. It was awesome to drive...oh and the power. We would fly around in that thing...thank God I am still alive today! Anyways we would load the Expedition up with all the necessary stuff including the cake and have to deliver to the church. Everything made it in one piece!

My next job came at the beginning of my Senior year. My Sophmore year I began taking classes at our local community college and I would take 2 courses per semester (2 classes a week). Because I did that it helped me finish up my credits in high school early so I only had to take my four main classes (Science, Math, English & History/Economics) my senior year. Only taking those 4 classes I got out of school every day at noon! How awesome is that? I loved it! So anyways my best friend then got me a job where she worked at an Orthodontist Office. I was an assistant. Yes, I worked on patients...only minor things like taking their wire out of their braces or those colored rings off. Bascially my job would be to have all of that off the patient so that the patient is ready when the Orthodontists is ready to see the patient. I actually enjoyed it! I would only work there from 1pm-5pm and would have the rest of my night to do whatever I pleased.

Then the last month of my senior year I decided to get another job while still doing my orthodontist assistant. There was a new pizzeria opening up in my home town so I thought I would get a night job there. I had to be there at 5:30 and would work till 9. I made some good money and all I did there flatten out the pizza crust before it was made! I only worked there for about 2 months or so.

After that was the summer that I graduated from High School...this will be another post in itself!

So that is a few jobs that I had in High School...what about you?

Give me a J-O-B

Tuesday, September 29, 2009 3
Well I have decided that I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as a stay at home mom but it is time for me to get a job. We are barely making it and I have a serious buyer on our house so hopefully sometime in October we will be rid of it. I will post more on this later. However, Kevin and I were discussing our finances and if I want to buy the house I want then I need a job. I am making money with Mary Kay just not enough to keep us afloat right now. I do plan on continuing to do Mary Kay and maybe one day I will have a bigger client base and can make enough to stay at home. But right now that just isnt feasible.

Before my last job I worked as an Office Manager at a church...I really liked it except for all the drama that was always going on. I never knew there was drama at a church! I worked for the church for 14 months...I really liked it but of course decided to take my last job because of the money. Before my church job I was a receptionist at a pediatrics office. I loved it...except for the one of the doctors. He owned the practice and he thought he was God or something and he wasnt....he treated us like crap. The day he threw a chart at me and another girl was the day I walked out. However, I loved the patients and I loved what I did...so now I am looking for something like that. I think I could be happy at a drs office.

So wish me luck on my job search...who knows, maybe I will find a job to where I can start blogging again regularly!

Update on Me

Monday, September 28, 2009 3
Kaylyn is feeling much better! I was kind of worried there on Friday when she came down with this. Nights of course are the worse and boy was it. Her fever spiked to 104 with Motrin in her system and she was very lethargic. She laid around all afternoon not doing anything but watching TV...which sick or not is very unlike her. We gave her a luke warm bath and that helped some. She laid in my bed some before we went to bed. I gave her some Motrin and tamiflu right before bedtime and put her to bed. I checked on her every 2 hrs (I am exhausted) and throughout the night her fever went down. She got up around 8:30 Saturday morning and seemed so much better. She was up and playing and running around. She still had a fever that stayed between 101 & 102 all day, but it didn't seem to phase her.

Sunday her fever came down and stayed between 99 & 100. She was really upset that I wouldn't let her go to church and didn't really understand why because in her mind she was fine because she felt fine. We took it easy all weekend and last night she still had a low grade fever so we decided to keep her out one more day.

When she woke up today her fever was gone and she seemed to be herself again. I still kept her out since she hadn't been fever free for 24 hrs. Today we hung out around the house (I am dying to get out) and made a cake. At first she wanted cupcakes but at the last minute decided to just a cake. It's red velvet...my favorite but for some reason I really am not that interested in it. So tomorrow she will go back to school and I can get my house back and actually sterilize it! I am so lucky that as of now Kevin and I are still fine...no signs of the flu!

The Swine Flu has Hit!

Friday, September 25, 2009 5
I knew that it was a matter of time before one of us got the flu...the swine flu! Kaylyn was absolutely fine yesterday. She was her normally talkative self. But this morning when I went to wake her up for school she was very whiny. She went to bed at a decent hour (7:45) because Grey's Anatomy was coming on last night and I had to watch it in peace...I know, I am bad. So anyway she got plenty of sleep but very ill this morning. She started complaining that she didn't feel good so I did the mommy thing and felt her forehead. Yup! She was burning up. I got out the thermometer and it read 103.2. Yikes! I looked into her eyes and could tell she really didn't feel good so I just let her lay there and watch TV. I emailed her teacher to let her know she wouldn't be at school today and then waited around until 8 to call and make an appointment.

I didn't want to go into the weekend with this high of a fever. So I got an appointment for 10:30 and off we went. We had to sit a little while because our normal doctor wasn't in today. So I got to choose from 7 other doctors...of course I choose the one that was running behind! He came in and checked her out and ordered a strep test and flu test. They swabbed her throat and then her nose and she didn't like either. We had to wait about 20 more mins for the results and sure enough it was the swine flu.

The doctor said to give her tamiflu and keep her hydrated and give her motrin for her fever. So that is what we are doing...I am trying to get her to take a nap but its not working. I need a nap so bad too! However we have made a pallet in the floor and we are watching Phineas and Ferb on the Disney Channel!

Now lets hope that Kevin and I don't get it too!
